“Vinyasa” yoga flow is a strong and dynamic form of yoga whose emphasis is on increasing strength and flexibility, as well as coordinating movement with breathing. Regular practice will help you become stronger, more supple and calm.

Attending a regular yoga class can also help motivate you to lose weight, improve your balance, help prevent falls and protect you from injury.

Most studies suggest that yoga is a safe and effective way to exercise. NHS Choices states there is some evidence that regular yoga practice is beneficial for people with high blood pressure, heart disease, arthritis, aches and pains including low back pain, as well as depression and stress.

I offer enjoyable, friendly classes with an emphasis on gentle stretching, building strength and coordinating movement to breath. The addition of mellow music also encourages the body and mind to de-stress.

Who is the class for?

The class is suitable for all ages and abilities and will enable you to gain the know-how to continue your own beneficial yoga practice at home.

Sometimes people think they are too old to start yoga – you are never too old to start!

All participants will be asked to complete a short medical questionnaire before starting class, so that we can make any adaptations and modifications to ensure you can practice safely.

yoga with charmian wyldeWhat is a class like?

My classes follow the format of a ‘yoga flow’, allowing you to move continuously for the duration of the session, taking rest phases when you need. The aim of this style is to allow you to relax as much as possible during the class and focus on how your body feels as you progress through a series of yoga postures.

There is plenty of repetition of key yoga postures, allowing you to gain familiarity and adapt and develop these to enhance the effectiveness and comfort of each posture for your own body.

At the end of our class, we always take a “Savasana” or deep relaxation that enables your body to release tension and restore vitality.

Our classes are friendly and fun and there are usually a good few giggles along the way!

What do I need to bring?

Once you decide that you like yoga, it is useful to purchase your own yoga mat so that you can practice at home and even take it on holiday! I recommend you obtain a mat with a reasonable thickness to protect your knees. You also need a mat that grips well and is long enough for you to stretch out fully on it. You may also want to bring a blanket, especially in the winter months for the Savasana or relaxation. Wear comfortable, loose clothing in which you can move.

(NB: Yoga mats, blocks and blankets are provided at The Malt House Classes. For Ashdon classes you will need to bring your own mat).

You can ‘drop into’ class for £10 per class or purchase a 5 class pass for £45. You can use this pass at any of my classes.

About Me:

I have a background in movement therapy and trained as a yoga teacher at CAMYOGA, Cambridge, in 2012. Prior to this I taught Pilates and developed modules and teaching in Pilates as part of a degree programme at The University of East London. My classes usually include some of the beneficial elements of Pilates and from my work with Chinese medicine, I also incorporate the sense of flow that emulates from Tai Chi and Qi Gong, Chinese remedial movement systems.

My aim is to help you master the ability to gain sufficient body awareness to allow the body to relax into postures that release pain, stiffness and tension.
